The Welsh Terrier originates from Wales, United Kingdom, where it was developed over centuries to hunt badgers, otters, and other quarry. Its hard, wiry black-and-tan coat and compact, muscular frame reflect a heritage where function and form went hand in hand. Standing 36 to 39 cm tall and weighing 9 to 10 kg, this breed packs abundant energy and a characteristically independent terrier mindset into a manageable size. Welsh Terriers are cheerful, curious, and deeply affectionate with their families; when properly socialized, they get along well with children. Their natural instinct to think independently means consistent training matters more than with some breeds. Low shedding makes them relatively tidy indoors, but regular grooming appointments and daily exercise are non-negotiable aspects of care.
