The Irish Setter originated in Ireland and has served as a skilled bird dog since the 18th century. Early dogs often displayed red-and-white coats, but by the 19th century a solid, deep mahogany red became the hallmark of the breed. Standing 55–67 cm tall and weighing 25–32 kg, the Irish Setter carries its lean, athletic frame beneath a flowing, silky coat that is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the canine world. In temperament, the breed is joyful, outgoing, and equally affectionate toward every family member. Its hunting heritage means stamina and curiosity run deep, making daily vigorous exercise and mental stimulation essential to a contented life.
