The yellow clown goby (Gobiodon okinawae) is a tiny coral goby of the family Gobiidae. It is distributed in the western Pacific from southern Japan to Rowley Shoals and the southern Great Barrier Reef, and also occurs in Palau and the Marshall Islands. A coral-commensal species, it lives in lagoons at 2-15 m, hovering among or above the branches of staghorn Acropora, and forms groups of 5-15 individuals in the wild. It is bright yellow all over, reaches about 3.5 cm in total length and is capable of facultative air-breathing. Easy to keep, it does well even in a small tank of 38 L or more. Active and peaceful, it is often seen perched in plain view on live rock or coral. Spawning in the aquarium is common; the female lays eggs on the underside of a coral branch, causing tissue recession there, but under good conditions the coral regrows the lost tissue. Feed brine shrimp, frozen mysis, chopped shrimp and frozen carnivore preparations. Harmless to other fish, but coral gobies of the same genus fight over territory.
