Pseudanthias dispar
A small anthias; males have a blood-red dorsal fin, females are orange above and pale lavender below. Forms large shoals on shallow outer reefs. Relatively hardy; group keeping and several feedings a day are the basics.
The dispar or peach anthias (Pseudanthias dispar) is an anthiadine of the Pacific, from Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean to the Line Islands, north to the Yaeyama Islands and south to the Great Barrier Reef, Fiji and Samoa; it is replaced by the flame anthias (P. ignitus) in the Indian Ocean. It lives on the upper edge of steep outer reef slopes at depths to about 15 m, where mixed-sex shoals gather in moderate currents to feed on drifting plankton. Males have a conspicuous blood-red dorsal fin; females are orange-yellow above and pale lavender to white below. Maximum length is about 9.5 cm. It is a protogynous hermaphrodite: when the male is lost, the largest female changes sex. Among anthias it is peaceful and relatively hardy, but it loses condition easily, so feed frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp and similar foods in small amounts several times a day. It settles better in a group of one male and several females than alone, and a refugium supplying copepods makes long-term keeping easier.
The Dispar Anthias grows to Up to 9.5 cm.
The ideal temperature for the Dispar Anthias is 22〜26℃.
