Amphiprion perideraion
A small anemonefish with a pinkish pale-orange body, a white stripe along the back and a thin white bar behind the eye. Found from Amami-Oshima southward, it lives with the magnificent sea anemone. Gentle, so pair it with peaceful tank mates.
The Pink Skunk Clownfish (Amphiprion perideraion) ranges across the western Pacific from the Gulf of Thailand and Cocos-Keeling to Samoa and Tonga, north to the Ryukyu Islands and south to the Great Barrier Reef and New Caledonia. It lives on lagoon and seaward reefs at 1-38 m, mainly with the magnificent sea anemone (Heteractis magnifica) but also with Heteractis crispa and Stichodactyla gigantea. The pinkish pale-orange body has a white stripe from the snout along the base of the dorsal fin and a thin white bar just behind the eye, which distinguishes it from the Orange Skunk Clownfish. At a maximum of 10 cm it is one of the smaller clownfish. It is a protandrous hermaphrodite that spawns in pairs on the substrate, with the male guarding the eggs. It has been reared in captivity and captive-bred fish are traded, though it is considered somewhat harder to spawn and rear than other clownfish. A tank of 114 L or more is recommended and a host anemone is optional. It is calm and timid, so avoid aggressive fish and other clownfish and keep it in a peaceful reef tank.
