The Cherub Angelfish (Centropyge argi) is a dwarf angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae found in the western Atlantic from Bermuda and Florida through the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea to French Guiana. It reaches a maximum total length of about 8cm and has a deep blue body with an orange-yellow head and chest and a thin blue ring around the eye. It lives on coral rubble at depths of 5-80m (usually 5-30m), feeding on algae and small benthic invertebrates. It forms small harems of one male with several females and juveniles, and retreats into crevices when alarmed. In captivity provide a tank of 190L or more with plenty of live rock for grazing microalgae. Despite its size it is feisty; males fight to the death, so keep one per tank, with only a mated pair as an exception. It may nip large-polyp stony corals and clam mantles, so use caution in reef tanks. It has been bred in aquaria, is relatively hardy and feeds readily, making it a popular first dwarf angel.
