Hoplisoma paleatum is a small callichthyid catfish from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, moved out of Corydoras paleatus in the 2024 generic revision. FishBase records 6.6cm standard length for males and 7.1cm for females. The pale body is scattered with dark blotches, the source of the name Peppered. Its range is subtropical and FishBase gives a wild temperature of 18-23C, which is cool for the genus. Aquarium temperature is 22-26C and sustained heat is best avoided, with pH 6.0-7.0, 0-12dGH and a 61 x 38cm base of about 70 litres. It is peaceful and gregarious, and should be kept in groups of at least four to six. Breeding is among the easier of the genus, and Seriously Fish notes that most fish offered for sale are captive bred. The IUCN Red List assesses it as Least Concern.
