About

Hoplisoma adolfoi is a small callichthyid catfish from the Rio Negro basin in Brazil, moved out of Corydoras adolfoi in the 2024 generic revision. FishBase records 5.7cm standard length and Seriously Fish gives 55-60mm. It shows three colours: a white body, a black mask over the eye, a dark oblique bar across the back and an orange patch on the nape. Several Rio Negro congeners carry a similar oblique bar, and this species is most easily confused with Hoplisoma duplicareum. The bar is said to be narrower and the nape patch less intense here, but Seriously Fish states that these characters cannot separate the two reliably. Aquarium conditions are 20-26C, pH 4.0-7.0 and 1-5dGH, so soft, acidic water is needed. It is peaceful and strongly gregarious and should be kept in groups of at least four to six. The IUCN Red List assesses it as Least Concern.
