Trigonopoma pauciperforatum
A slender rasbora from peat-swamp streams of Southeast Asia, with an orange-to-gold lateral stripe above a darker line. Beautiful in a school and prefers soft, acidic water.
The redstripe rasbora, Trigonopoma pauciperforatum, was formerly Rasbora pauciperforata and is now placed in Trigonopoma. It occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra and Borneo, with reports from Thailand and Cambodia (FishBase, Seriously Fish), and reaches 7 cm TL. It is common in blackwater streams of peat-swamp forest, swimming from mid-water to the surface in shallow, sluggish waters and marshes under forest canopy, feeding on zooplankton and insects. It prefers soft, acidic, often tannin-stained water. The lateral stripe varies from orange to gold with locality, diet and condition, and older fish often show dark-edged scales on the belly. It is an egg scatterer without parental care. It is a standard schooling rasbora in Japanese aquarium shops.
