About
Hoplisoma panda is a small callichthyid catfish from the upper Amazon basin, moved out of Corydoras panda in the 2024 generic revision. FishBase records 3.8cm standard length and Seriously Fish gives 5cm, placing it among the smaller corydoras. The creamy body carries three dark markings, a mask over the eye, a blotch at the dorsal-fin base and another on the caudal peduncle, and this pattern is the source of the name. Aquarium conditions are 22-25C, pH 6.0-7.4 and 1-12dGH, with a 45 x 30cm base and about 41 litres as the practical minimum. It is relatively sensitive to heat, so summer temperatures need watching. It is peaceful and strongly gregarious, best kept in groups of at least four to six. Breeding follows the usual corydoras method, triggered by a large water change with cooler water. The IUCN Red List assesses it as Near Threatened.
