Liasis mackloti
A python of the Lesser Sunda Islands and nearby regions, blackish brown to greenish with yellow to ochre flanks. It can exceed 2 m, may be bad-tempered if mishandled, and breeds readily in captivity.
Macklot's python, also called the freckled python, is a Liasis python found in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia (Savu, Roti, Semau, Timor, Wetar and others), Timor-Leste and New Guinea, and is the type species of its genus. The Reptile Database notes that reports from coastal northern Australia may be misidentifications of other Liasis species. Three subspecies are recognized: the nominate form, L. m. dunni of Wetar and L. m. savuensis, the Savu python. It reaches 2.13 m or more in total length and can become bad-tempered if not treated properly. The ground color is blackish brown to green with yellow to ochre sides and a white belly scattered with small yellow spots or black speckles; the lip scales are pale. It is oviparous and is known to breed easily in captivity, and a hybrid with the carpet python has been reported. It is sold far outside its native range through pet stores, specialist shops and shows, and in Japan it is available from specialist shops. Subspecies differ in size and color, so check the subspecies and origin when buying.
