With conical to turban-shaped shells, they rasp film algae, green algae, and brown diatoms off glass and live rock with their radula, keeping the tank clean. Reef-safe and harmless to corals and fish, hardy, and inexpensive, they are a classic first line of defense against algae during tank cycling. They are extremely sensitive to copper-based fish medications, which must never be used. Trochus snails can right themselves if tipped over, but turbo snails often cannot, so flip them back when you find them upside down. Stock them according to the algae load so their food supply does not run out.
