Amphiprion sebae
An Indian Ocean clownfish with a blackish body, two white bands, an orange snout and belly and a yellow tail. In the wild it lives only in the Haddon's carpet anemone.
The sebae anemonefish (Amphiprion sebae) ranges across the Indian Ocean: the Arabian Peninsula, India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, the Andaman Islands, and Sumatra and Java (FishBase). At up to 16 cm TL it grows large for a clownfish. Adults are blackish with two white bands, an orange snout, and a yellow belly, tail and anal fin. It lives in coastal waters and lagoons and, in the wild, associates only with Haddon's carpet anemone (Stichodactyla haddoni). Eggs are laid on hard surfaces and guarded by the male; females are larger, and if the female is lost the male changes sex. The similar Clark's anemonefish (A. clarkii) is sometimes sold under this name. It is best kept with its host anemone, in which case a tank of about 190 L or more is recommended (Saltcorner). It takes frozen and prepared foods well and does not harm corals. Wild-caught fish are rarely available, and captive-bred fish are considered hardier. In Japan it is handled by specialist shops.
