The Koran Angelfish (Pomacanthus semicirculatus) is a large angelfish found in the Indo-West Pacific from the Red Sea and East Africa to Samoa, north to southern Japan and south to Western Australia, New South Wales and Lord Howe Island. It reaches 40cm standard length. Juveniles are black with many narrow curved white and blue lines, nearly straight on the head and increasingly curved toward the tail. Adult colouring develops at 8-16cm total length: a yellow-green to brown body speckled blue by the scale edges, a plain head with blue gill margins and eye rings, and blue-edged fins. It lives on coral-rich coastal reefs at 1-40m, juveniles preferring shallow sheltered spots, and feeds on algae, tunicates and sponges. In captivity provide 950L or more with plenty of live rock for grazing algae and cyanobacteria. Hardy and quick to feed, it is one of the easier large angels, but it nips stony and soft corals and clams and is not suited to reef tanks. Feed spirulina, marine algae, angelfish preparations and frozen shrimp at least three times daily.
