Herald's angelfish (Centropyge heraldi) is a dwarf angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae. It ranges across the Indo-Pacific from Sri Lanka and Bali through Indonesia to the Marshall Islands, living on steep outer reef slopes at 5-90 m (FishBase), and reaches 12 cm TL. It is almost entirely yellow, with a dusky olive patch speckled with yellow behind the eye. It closely resembles the lemonpeel angelfish (C. flavissima) but lacks its blue eye ring and blue fin margins. In the wild it grazes algae and lives in harems of 2-4 fish. Keep it in an established tank with plenty of live rock to graze, feeding algae-based prepared foods and frozen foods. Dwarf angelfish of the same genus fight, so one Centropyge species per tank is recommended. In reef tanks it may nip large-polyp stony corals, some soft corals and clam mantles, so it is only conditionally reef-compatible. It is imported regularly and is a familiar species in Japanese marine fish shops.
