About

Hoplisoma schwartzi is a small callichthyid catfish from the Purus River basin in Brazil, moved out of Corydoras schwartzi in the 2024 generic revision. Maximum size differs between sources: FishBase records 3.9cm standard length while Seriously Fish gives 70mm. Fine dark spots form a reticulated pattern over a pale body, and the black, elongated first dorsal spine is striking. The aquarium range is a comparatively narrow 22-24C, with pH 6.0-7.5, 1-15dGH and a 60 x 38cm base of about 68 litres. It is peaceful and gregarious and should be kept in groups of at least four to six. Use fine rounded sand and keep it clean so the barbels are not damaged. Breeding follows the usual corydoras method, triggered by a large water change with cooler water. The IUCN Red List assesses it as Least Concern.
