Dendrobates auratus
A poison dart frog with green, blue or golden markings on a black or brown ground. Colour varies greatly by locality, and morphs are traded under names such as Costa Rica or Panama.
Dendrobates auratus occurs in humid lowland and submontane forest from southern Central America into northwestern Colombia. Males average about 1.9 cm snout-vent length and females 2.5 cm or more. After D. tinctorius it is the most variable poison frog in colour, with morphs ranging from the classic green-on-black Costa Rican form to blue and bronze-and-green variants. A population deliberately introduced to Oahu, Hawaii in 1932 for mosquito control is still established. Its toxins are sequestered from wild prey, so captive-bred animals are not poisonous.

The Green and Black Poison Frog lives 10-15 years.
The Green and Black Poison Frog grows to 2.5-4cm.
The ideal temperature for the Green and Black Poison Frog is 23〜28℃. Ideal humidity is 70〜100%.
In captivity it is kept in a planted terrarium with a moisture-retaining substrate, wood and live plants at 23-28 C by day, 18-21 C at night and 70-100% humidity; ventilation matters because the species suffers in stagnant, overly humid air.

23-28 C by day, 18-21 C at night, 70-100% humidity. It tolerates neither extreme heat nor cold; in summer move the enclosure somewhere airy or cool it.
A 61 x 30 x 40 cm terrarium suits two to six adults. Use coco fibre or leaf mould and fit a mesh top or side panel to avoid stagnant air; add wood and plants for climbing and hiding.
Fruit flies as the staple with first-instar crickets and springtails. Feed adults 15-40 items every other day and juveniles daily, dusted with supplement.
Diurnal and shy, often staying in cover. Groups work in a large enclosure, but mature frogs squabble over territory, so provide ample floor space.
Captive-bred frogs are considered non-toxic, but handle them without bare hands. Do not house different locality morphs together.
Intermediate. This is an intermediate-level species. Some prior experience and knowledge of environmental management are recommended.
The ideal temperature for Green and Black Poison Frog is 23〜28℃. Recommended humidity is 70〜100%. Avoid sudden temperature changes and maintain a stable environment.
