Foxface rabbitfish
Yellow body with fox-like face. Excellent algae eater for tank cleaning. Venomous dorsal spines.
The foxface rabbitfish (Siganus vulpinus) is a marine fish of the family Siganidae native to coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its fox-like, black-and-white patterned face contrasting with a vivid yellow body gives it a uniquely appealing appearance. Strongly herbivorous, it grazes prolifically on algae and filamentous growths from live rock and tank walls, serving as one of the most effective natural algae managers available in the hobby. Adults reach approximately 25 cm; a tank of 200 litres or more is recommended. Its dorsal, pelvic, and anal spines carry venom — direct handling requires care. Generally peaceful toward other species, though conspecific disputes can occur. When stressed, it undergoes a dramatic color shift to a mottled brown camouflage pattern.
