Hemiancistrus subviridis is a loricariid catfish of eastern Colombia and western Venezuela, occurring in the upper Orinoco above the Atures rapids and in the Iguapo, Ventuari and Casiquiare rivers. It lives in the spaces between granite boulders and feeds on insects, algae, bryophytes and other plant matter. FishBase records 15cm standard length. Fine yellow spots over a yellow-green body give it the name green phantom pleco. In the hobby the number L-200 is applied to two species, this one and Baryancistrus demantoides, and their close resemblance has historically led them to be treated as the same or as close relatives. The IUCN assesses it as Least Concern and it is not listed by CITES.
