A ground gecko with panther-like spotted pattern on small body. Hardy and can be kept in small space.
The Madagascar ground gecko (Paroedura picta), commonly known as the panther gecko or pictus gecko, is a small eublepharid lizard endemic to southern Madagascar. Adults reach 8–12 cm in total length. The species is ground-dwelling, with moveable eyelids (a trait shared with leopard geckos), and is named for the leopard-like dark spots on a tan or grey background. Panther geckos are nocturnal insectivores, feeding on small crickets, waxworms, and similar invertebrates. They are considered hardy and easy to keep, requiring only a small enclosure (30 cm or larger), a temperature gradient of 25–30°C, and moderate humidity of 50–60%. Captive breeding has produced several morphs. Their compact size and straightforward care make them an appealing choice for keepers with limited space.
