The Argentine horned frog (Ceratophrys ornata), commonly called the Pacman frog, is a frog of the family Ceratophryidae native to the grasslands of South America. Reaching about 10–15 cm in length, it has a rounded, squat body, a very large mouth, and horn-like projections above the eyes, a look that earned it its nickname after the video-game character. It is an ambush predator that buries itself halfway in the substrate to wait for prey and has a voracious appetite, attempting to swallow almost anything that fits in its mouth. Because it moves little, it does not require a large space and can be kept with moist substrate and a shallow water dish, making it a popular beginner species. It is carnivorous, taking crickets, dubia roaches, and pinky mice, but overfeeding can cause obesity and digestive problems, so feeding intervals should be managed.
