Rankin's dragon (Pogona henrylawsoni), also known as the dwarf or pygmy bearded dragon, is a small agamid lizard native to the arid grasslands of inland Australia. A close relative of the central bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps), it reaches only about 25–30 cm in length, smaller than its relative, which allows it to be kept in a more compact enclosure. It is diurnal and fond of basking, requiring strong UVB lighting, a basking temperature gradient, and a dry substrate. It is omnivorous, taking chiefly insects along with vegetables and fruit. With a relatively calm temperament and a tendency to become tame, it is a popular beginner species like the bearded dragon. Hardy and well-documented, it is well suited to beginners.
