Amphiprion ocellaris
The iconic marine fish made famous by film. Lives in symbiosis with anemones, hiding among tentacles. Perennial beginner's choice in saltwater fishkeeping. Pair keeping enables breeding.
The ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris), widely known as the 'Nemo fish', is a small marine fish of the family Pomacentridae found throughout coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its vivid orange body marked with three white bands makes it one of the most recognizable aquarium fish in the world. It lives symbiotically with sea anemones, having developed immunity to their stinging tentacles. This species is a sequential hermaphrodite: the dominant individual in a group becomes female. Captive-bred specimens are widely available, making it one of the most beginner-friendly saltwater fish. While it can thrive without an anemone host, the symbiotic pairing provides exceptional display value.
