About
The Spanish Mastiff developed from ancient Molosser dogs of around 2000 BC, probably brought to the Iberian Peninsula by Phoenician traders, and has guarded Merino flocks from wolves and raiders since the era of the medieval Mesta. Shown from the early 20th century, its standard was written in 1946. Gentle, affectionate and obedient with its family yet utterly resolute against intruders, this giant guardian needs space, socialization and experienced handling.
