About this condition
A condition where the kneecap (patella) slips out of its normal position, common in small-breed dogs. The severity of gait abnormality varies with the grade of luxation.
Common symptoms
- Lifting the hind leg while walking
- Skipping gait
- Knee pain
- Reluctance to exercise
Common causes
- Congenital (common in small dog breeds)
- Trauma
- Skeletal abnormalities
Prevention (husbandry & daily care)
Non-slip floor mats, limit jumping, maintain proper weight, joint supplements.
