About
The Sarplaninac is an ancient livestock guardian bred since time immemorial in the mountains of the former southeastern Yugoslavia, named after the Sharplanina range where it was most common. Registered with the FCI in 1939 as the Illyrian Shepherd Dog, it received its current name in 1957. Calm, dependable and protective, it still guards flocks from predators today and needs experienced handling, early socialization and space.
