The Maremma Sheepdog (Abruzzes and Maremma Shepherd Dog) is an ancient Italian flock guardian descending from the sheepdogs of the Abruzzo region and those of the Maremma and Latium, whose natural crossing was promoted by seasonal livestock migration after 1860. A large, rustic and majestic dog in solid white, its guarding ability rests on insight and deep devotion to its master. Independent by nature, it needs space, exercise and consistent early socialization, making it best suited to experienced owners.
