The Norwegian Elkhound Grey is a very old breed, said to be among the most ancient animals originating on the Scandinavian peninsula. From around the 8th century the Norsemen used it to hunt elk and bear, as a sled dog in winter, as a livestock guardian and even as a bird dog, and Vikings reportedly took it on their expeditions.
