About
The Bordeaux Mastiff, or Dogue de Bordeaux, is one of the oldest French breeds, thought to descend from the Alan of medieval Europe, and served as a boar-catching dog, fighting dog and guardian of homes, livestock and butcher shops. It first appeared under its present name at France's first dog show in Paris in 1863 and, after near extinction following World War II, made a fresh start in 1960. A classic brachycephalic molosser of imposing power, it is vigilant and courageous yet calm and deeply affectionate with its family, best suited to experienced owners.
