Channa pulchra is a channid restricted to the headwaters of the Kyeinthali Chaung in Rakhine State, western Myanmar. Ralf Britz described it in 2007 from material collected in the Rakhine Yoma, and it is considered closely related to C. ornatipinnis and C. stiktos. FishBase records 30cm total length, so despite being sold as a dwarf snakehead it is not a small fish. Its habitat is fast-flowing, clear, highly oxygenated and relatively cool water, and FishBase gives an upper habitat temperature of 23C. It is an obligate air-breather, so an air layer must be left above the water and a tight cover used to prevent jumping. The IUCN Red List assesses it as Data Deficient and little is recorded of its ecology or reproduction.
