About
Bunocephalus coracoideus is an aspredinid catfish of the Amazon River basin. Its flat head and slender tail recall the instrument that gives it its name, and its brown mottling blends into leaf litter and sand. FishBase records a maximum of 11cm SL, while Seriously Fish gives 15cm. Seriously Fish recommends a 60 x 38 x 30cm tank (about 68 litres) at 20-27C, pH 5.8-7.8 and 2-20 dGH. It stays buried through the day and becomes active once the lights are off, so a deep bed of fine sand and an evening feeding of sinking food suit it best. It shows no aggression towards its own kind or other fish and can share a tank with anything too large to swallow. Spawning is rarely achieved but has been reported from groups of six or more adults, with eggs hatching in about three days.
