About
Lucanus kraatzi occurs from southwestern China into northern Vietnam. The nominate L. k. kraatzi occurs in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Tibet and resembles L. nobilis but differs in the shape of the ear-like process, while the subspecies L. k. giangae occurs in northern Vietnam. Records in GBIF are confined to Vietnam and China. The BE-KUWA 2025 edition registers the two separately, at 71.8mm for the nominate form and 62.7mm for the Vietnamese stock, so the subspecies differ in the size they reach. It reaches Japan as an imported stag beetle but never in quantity.
