The Keeshond is the wolfspitz variety of the German Spitz, descended from Stone Age dogs and among the oldest breeds of Central Europe. Its lush silver-grey coat tipped with black, mane-like ruff, plumed tail and distinctive 'spectacles' around the eyes give it a striking appearance. Alert, devoted and quick to learn, with little hunting instinct but a keen watchfulness toward strangers, it is a hardy, long-lived and ideal family companion and watchdog.
