The Gordon Setter, the most recently recognized of the setters, was developed around 1820 by Alexander, Duke of Gordon, at Gordon Castle in Scotland, whose name the breed carries. Scotland's only gun dog, it is the largest and most enduring of the setters, wearing a gleaming coal-black coat with lustrous chestnut-red tan markings. Intelligent, bold, outgoing and even-tempered, it needs ample daily exercise and regular grooming of its feathered coat.
