The German Spitz is the oldest breed of Central Europe, descended from the Stone Age Peat Dog, and the ancestor of many other breeds. It comes in Gross (45cm), Mittel (35cm) and Klein (27cm) varieties, all sporting an abundant double coat, mane-like ruff, plumed tail and foxy head. Attentive, lively and exceptionally devoted, with little hunting instinct but a natural wariness of strangers, it is an ideal companion, family dog and watchdog, famed for its weatherproof hardiness and longevity.
