Lobophyllia corymbosa
A lobophylliid LPS coral of shallow reefs from the Red Sea and East Africa across the tropical Indo-Pacific. Its polyps stand as separate columns, with less continuous valley structure than L. hemprichii.
Lobophyllia corymbosa is a large-polyp stony coral of the family Lobophylliidae found on shallow reefs of the Red Sea, the East African coast and other parts of the tropical Indo-Pacific. English names include lobed cactus coral and brain root coral. Described by Forsskal in 1775, it is an old species and WoRMS lists many varietal names as synonyms. Its basic form has polyps rising as separate columns, so each polyp outline is clearer than in Lobophyllia hemprichii, where continuous septa form valleys. Colour runs through green, brown and red, and some specimens carry a contrasting ring around the oral disc. It prefers moderate lighting and low to moderate flow, and direct strong current should be avoided so the fleshy tissue is not damaged. It extends feeding tentacles at night, so feeding then is effective.

Low to moderate flow. Direct jets damage the fleshy tissue, so place it on sand or low rock.
Keep 24-27 C with KH 7-12 and calcium 400-450 ppm, held stable.
It extends feeding tentacles at night; target-feed minced fish or shrimp onto the oral disc to promote growth.
Separate polyps make contact less likely, but still space it from other LPS. As a scleractinian it is CITES Appendix II.
Intermediate. This is an intermediate-level species. Some prior experience and knowledge of environmental management are recommended.
The ideal temperature for Lobophyllia Corymbosa is 24〜27℃. Avoid sudden temperature changes and maintain a stable environment.
Lobophyllia Corymbosa feeds on: Photosynthesis via zooxanthellae plus meaty foods. Aim for a balanced diet with appropriate feeding frequency.
