The white-eared conure (Pyrrhura leucotis) inhabits the Atlantic Forest of eastern Brazil and is among the smallest Pyrrhura conures. It has a white ear patch, reddish-brown cheeks and fine scaling across the breast. No subspecies are recognised. The species was once treated broadly, including close relatives such as the grey-breasted conure, but subsequent splits left the species in its narrow sense with a restricted range, and the IUCN assesses it as Vulnerable. Habitat loss through development of the Atlantic Forest is the main threat.
