The Irish Setter originated in Ireland and has served as a skilled bird dog since the 18th century. Early dogs often displayed red-and-white coats, but by the 19th century a solid, deep mahogany red became the hallmark of the breed. Standing 55–67 cm tall and weighing 25–32 kg, the Irish Setter carries its lean, athletic frame beneath a flowing, silky coat that is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the canine world.
