Chindongo demasoni is a small mbuna from the rocky Tanzanian shores of Lake Malawi. FishBase records a maximum of 6.3cm SL and Seriously Fish gives 7.5cm. Both sexes share the same pattern of light blue bars over deep navy, which makes them hard to tell apart. Intraspecific aggression is extreme: in small groups a dominant fish will wear the others down, so keepers introduce many at once to spread the aggression. Use a tank of 120 x 45cm (about 205 litres) or larger with dense rockwork, at pH 7.6-8.8, 10-25 dGH and 24-28C. It is an algae grazer that needs a plant-based diet, and red meat such as beefheart should never be offered. Females are maternal mouthbrooders holding broods for roughly three weeks. The IUCN assesses the species as Vulnerable.
