Oryzias latipes
An improved medaka whose glow appears over almost the whole interior of the body, or scattered through it. It occurs on transparent-scaled and semi-transparent-scaled fish, and is brighter than ordinary tainaikou, forming a gradation of blue, green and orange.
Full-body tainaikou is the trait in which the glow appears over almost the entire interior of the body, or scattered through it. The Medaka Web Encyclopedia lists it as trait 25 and, as a variety, as the blue full-body tainaikou medaka, type No.0124 and fixed variety No.0142. It was created in 2016 and is also known as hyakushiki. The trait appears on transparent-scaled and semi-transparent-scaled fish, whose translucency makes the glow look brighter than ordinary tainaikou. There is no fixed position for the light: some fish glow only here and there, others over the whole body. The colour is not a single hue but a gradation mixing blue, green and orange. As with ordinary tainaikou the glowing layer forms a horizontal plate, so it can only be seen from above. The Japan Medaka Association classification manual groups it with the iridophore traits, separating tainaikou, full-body tainaikou and peritoneal glow by where the light appears.

The Japan Medaka Association's classification manual sorts varieties by traits that can be seen rather than by genotype, and does not set out how individual traits are inherited. Traits the manual explicitly says can be passed on and produced by selective, multi-generation breeding are listed as line-bred; the rest are grouped under Other.

Prepared medaka food, green water
The glowing layer forms a horizontal plate, so the light shows only from above. Fish range from sparsely glowing to glowing over the whole body, so selection is done looking down into the container. Outdoor containers viewed from above suit it best.
Commercial prepared medaka food is the staple, given in an amount finished within a few minutes. Leftovers decay and foul the water, so adjust the quantity. Green water rich in phytoplankton suits fry rearing.
Slightly acidic to slightly alkaline water is considered ideal, and the water drifts toward acidic as keeping continues. Around one water change per week is the guideline, and because sudden shifts in temperature or pH cause stress, acclimatise new fish by floating the bag. FishBase records the wild water chemistry of this species as pH 7.0-8.0 and hardness 9-19 dH.
A peaceful schooling fish, normally kept as a group of the same variety. One litre of water per fish is the guideline against overcrowding; overstocking causes poor growth, reduced breeding, oxygen shortage and water fouling.
Outdoors the spawning season runs from about April to October, once water reaches 18C or above with 12-13 hours of daylight. For year-round indoor breeding, 25-28C water and over 13 hours of lighting are the guideline. Eggs hatch at a cumulative 250 degree-days, about 10 days at 25C.
Full-body tainaikou appears only on transparent-scaled or semi-transparent-scaled fish, so scale type is the starting point for selection. The colour is a gradation and varies greatly, with many fish showing several colours. It is distinguished from tainaikou and peritoneal glow by where the light appears.
Intermediate. This is an intermediate-level species. Some prior experience and knowledge of environmental management are recommended.
The ideal temperature for Full-Body Tainaikou Medaka is 18〜28℃. Avoid sudden temperature changes and maintain a stable environment.
The average lifespan of Full-Body Tainaikou Medaka is 2-3 years. With proper care and nutrition, they can live a long and healthy life.
Full-Body Tainaikou Medaka typically reaches Up to about 4cm SL as an adult. Size may vary depending on care conditions and individual genetics.
Full-Body Tainaikou Medaka feeds on: Prepared medaka food, green water. Aim for a balanced diet with appropriate feeding frequency.
