The Taiwan Dog is a native breed descended from South Asian hunting dogs that lived alongside Taiwan's indigenous people in the central mountains, serving as faithful hunting companions in the forests. A 1980 joint study by National Taiwan University and Japan's Gifu and Nagoya universities, surveying 29 indigenous tribes, confirmed this ancestry. Now popular island-wide as a watchdog and family dog, it is keen, agile, fearless and intensely loyal to its master.
