The Kooikerhondje is a small Dutch sporting dog whose unique job is to lure curious ducks into trap decoys with its waving, plumed tail, a role it still performs today. Nearly lost, the breed was revived from 1942 by Baroness van Hardenbroek van Ammerstol through the foundation female Tommy, and was officially recognized by the Dutch Kennel Club in 1971. Nearly square, white with clear orange-red patches and black 'earrings' on the ear tips, it is cheerful, confident, good-natured and friendly, and is shown natural without trimming.
