Fimbriaphyllia divisa
A euphylliid whose tentacle tips branch finely to look like frog spawn. Its skeleton forms a continuous wall, which separates it from the branching F. paradivisa.
Fimbriaphyllia divisa is a large-polyp stony coral of the family Euphylliidae native to the Indo-Pacific islands and a staple of the marine aquarium hobby. Its tentacle tips branch finely into rounded swellings whose mass resembles frog spawn, hence the common name. The skeleton is flabello-meandroid, forming a continuous wall, and this distinguishes it from F. paradivisa, which has a tree-like branching structure with separate corallites. The two are frequently confused in the trade, so it is worth checking skeleton form when buying. It is easy to keep, preferring moderate lighting and gentle low to moderate flow. At night it extends long sweeper tentacles that sting neighbouring corals, so leave ample space. As a scleractinian it falls under CITES Appendix II.
