The Tricolor Oranda is an Oranda—developing the head wen—showing red, white, and black in clearly distinct colors. Unlike the calico (nacreous) pattern, where colors show translucently, here the colors develop on opaque ordinary scales with sharp boundaries, so the contrast of each color appears crisp. Individuals with a good balance of red, white, and black and a well-arranged pattern are very beautiful and rated highly at shows. The body follows the rounded Oranda form with longer tail fins and the fish swims gently. Clean water is important for healthy wen development and for maintaining the three colors, with care taken to keep the wen's grooves free of debris. Keep it in a tank of 60 liters or more with strong filtration, regular water changes, and color-conscious feeding. Being a slow swimmer, it pairs well with similarly calm varieties.
