Acropora tenuis
A corymbose Acropora with orderly-spaced branchlets, tube-shaped axial corallites and radial corallites with flaring lips. Known for blue, cream, yellow and green colour forms, and widely available as aquacultured stock.
Acropora tenuis is a reef-building acroporid distributed from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden across the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, the central Indo-Pacific, Australia, Southeast Asia, Japan, the East China Sea and the western and central Pacific. It lives on upper reef slopes and shallow subtidal reefs; SeaLifeBase records a depth range of 3-20 m. Colonies are corymbose with orderly-spaced branchlets, tube-shaped axial corallites and radial corallites with flaring lips. Colour may be blue, cream, yellow or green. It is a simultaneous hermaphrodite whose colonies spawn in synchrony once a year, releasing buoyant egg and sperm bundles. Aquaculture is well established and captive-grown stock is common in the trade. The IUCN assessed it as Endangered in 2023, and it is listed on CITES Appendix II.

Requires strong light. AlgaeBarn cites successful Acropora keeping at PAR 800 or more. Start newly added colonies under reduced light and raise it over several weeks.
The corymbose form packs its branchlets closely, so use strong flow that leaves no dead spots. Place it in a bright position on the upper to middle rockwork.
Water 22-26C, specific gravity 1.023-1.025, KH 8-12, calcium 380-440 ppm, magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Sudden swings in alkalinity are the most common cause of tissue loss.
Most of its nutrition comes from photosynthesis by its zooxanthellae. Powdered or liquid coral foods and phytoplankton can be offered as a supplement, but stable light and water chemistry matter more than feeding.
Aquacultured colonies adapt readily to aquarium conditions. Synchronised annual spawning is well documented and gamete release occasionally occurs in aquaria. Listed on CITES Appendix II.
Advanced. This is an advanced-level species. It requires specialized equipment and advanced husbandry skills with precise environmental control.
The ideal temperature for Acropora Tenuis is 24〜27℃. Avoid sudden temperature changes and maintain a stable environment.
