Acropora nana
An Acropora whose thin, straight, non-tapering branchlets radiate evenly from a solid base. Usually cream, blue or purple with purple tips, and so delicate that branchlets break off easily.
Acropora nana is an SPS coral of the family Acroporidae distributed on reefs from the western Indian Ocean to the central Pacific. Colonies are compact clumps of long, straight, non-tapering branchlets radiating at equal spacing from a solid base. Axial corallites are tubular and radial corallites are long, tubular and appressed. Colour is cream, blue or purple, usually with purple branch tips, and the whole colony is delicate, with branchlets that break apart readily (Corals of the World). It lives on outer reef flats with strong currents or wave action. Acropora valida can look very similar in wave-washed habitats but has thicker branchlets and chunkier radial corallites. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. In the aquarium it is a coral for experienced SPS keepers, needing strong light, brisk flow and very stable water. In Japan it is offered by name through large online retailers.
The Nana Acropora grows to Up to about 20 cm (Reeflex).
The ideal temperature for the Nana Acropora is 24〜27℃.

Domestic law: Collecting in Japanese waters is governed by each prefecture's fisheries adjustment regulations, which differ by prefecture. Okinawa bans all collection of reef-building corals, including stony corals, and also bans possessing or selling illegally collected corals (cultured corals are exempt, and the prefecture advises buyers to confirm a coral is cultured, on an artificial base or tagged). Tokyo bans collection in the waters off Ogasawara Village. In marine park zones of national and quasi-national parks, taking designated animals and plants requires a permit (Natural Parks Act, Art. 22).
All stony corals (Scleractinia) are listed in CITES Appendix II (checked on Species+). International trade requires export permits, but no registration is needed to sell or transfer specimens within Japan.

Mainly photosynthesis (zooxanthellae)
SPS corals prefer moderate to high light, and Acropora need especially strong light (AlgaeBarn). Place it in the upper part of the tank.
In the wild it lives on reef flats with strong currents or waves (Corals of the World). Give strong, changing flow so detritus does not settle between the branchlets.
24-27°C, salinity 33-35 ppt (SG 1.023-1.025). It does not tolerate sudden swings in alkalinity, calcium or magnesium, so keep it only in a mature, stable tank.
It gets most of its nutrition from zooxanthellae. Limit feeding to fine particulate food that does not foul the water.
The colony is delicate and branchlets snap easily (Corals of the World), so avoid touching it when moving or cleaning. Not a beginner coral (Reeflex).
Advanced. This is an advanced-level species. It requires specialized equipment and advanced husbandry skills with precise environmental control.
The ideal temperature for Nana Acropora is 24〜27℃. Avoid sudden temperature changes and maintain a stable environment.
Nana Acropora typically reaches Up to about 20 cm (Reeflex) as an adult. Size may vary depending on care conditions and individual genetics.
Nana Acropora feeds on: Mainly photosynthesis (zooxanthellae). Aim for a balanced diet with appropriate feeding frequency.
The price of Nana Acropora varies significantly depending on variety, size, and individual quality. Check our market price page for the latest pricing information.
