Acropora lokani
An Acropora forming colonies up to 30 cm wide with strong upright branches 5-7 mm in diameter and up to 20 mm long. Colour is brown, cream or blue, and it lives in sheltered lagoons and shallow reefs.
Acropora lokani was described by C. C. Wallace in 1994. It occurs across the Indo-Pacific, including Fiji, Southeast Asia, American Samoa, Raja Ampat, the Solomon Islands, Pohnpei and the Great Barrier Reef, but is not common. It lives in sheltered lagoons, on shallow reef flats and on patch reefs at depths of 8-25 m. Colonies reach 30 cm across and consist of strong upright branches 5-7 mm in diameter and up to 20 mm long. The axial corallites at the branch tips are large and tube-shaped, while the radial corallites are small and both surrounded by and containing elaborate spinules. Colour is brown, cream or blue, and it resembles Acropora caroliniana and Acropora granulosa. The IUCN assessed it as Endangered in 2023 and it is listed on CITES Appendix II.

Mainly nutrition from symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemented with powdered or liquid coral foods and phytoplankton.
Requires strong light. AlgaeBarn cites successful Acropora keeping at PAR 800 or more. Start newly added colonies under reduced light and raise it over several weeks.
In the wild it lives in sheltered lagoons and shallow reefs, so give it strong randomised flow that leaves no dead spots rather than a direct blast.
Water 22-26C, specific gravity 1.023-1.025, KH 8-12, calcium 380-440 ppm, magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Sudden swings in alkalinity are the most common cause of tissue loss.
Most of its nutrition comes from photosynthesis by its zooxanthellae. Powdered or liquid coral foods and phytoplankton can be offered as a supplement, but stable light and water chemistry matter more than feeding.
Uncommon in the trade and easily confused with Acropora caroliniana and Acropora granulosa. Listed on CITES Appendix II.
Advanced. This is an advanced-level species. It requires specialized equipment and advanced husbandry skills with precise environmental control.
The ideal temperature for Acropora Lokani is 24〜27℃. Avoid sudden temperature changes and maintain a stable environment.
Acropora Lokani typically reaches Colonies up to 30 cm wide as an adult. Size may vary depending on care conditions and individual genetics.
