Trichogaster chuna var.
Improved variety of Honey Gourami with vivid golden color throughout the body. More vivid coloration than the original species, popular for adding color to aquariums. Peaceful temperament suitable for community tanks.
The golden honey gourami is a selectively bred color variety of the honey gourami (Trichogaster chuna), developed to express intensified lemon-yellow to golden body coloration throughout. Unlike the original honey gourami's subtle honey tones, this form glows with a vivid, sunlit yellow that commands attention in any aquarium — particularly against green planted backdrops, where the color contrast is exceptional. At 4–5 cm, it shares the original species' reputation as one of the most peaceful gouramis, compatible with a wide range of small community fish and often even with dwarf shrimp such as cherry shrimp. A labyrinth organ allows direct air breathing. Slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0–7.5) at 24–28°C is ideal. Floating plants such as Amazon frogbit provide security and serve as anchoring points for the bubble nests that males build during breeding, after which males guard eggs and newly hatched fry. An excellent choice for aquascaped tanks where a vivid yellow centerpiece fish is desired, with the additional advantage of a completely non-aggressive temperament.
