Harlequin rabbit
Unique rabbit with distinctly different colors on each side. Clown-like color patterns with a bright, sociable personality.
The Harlequin rabbit is a medium-sized breed originating in France in the 19th century, renowned for its uniquely striking coat pattern. Adults measure 35–45 cm and weigh 3–5 kg. Their coat displays an alternating banded or mosaic distribution of two colors: a base color (black, blue, chocolate, or lilac) alternating with orange or white. Ideally, the coloration alternates across the body and ears in a symmetrical pattern, creating a visually distinctive and prized appearance. Two varieties are recognized—Japanese (base color with orange) and Magpie (base color with white). Harlequins are intelligent, curious, and playful rabbits that tend to bond well with attentive owners. They require a cage of at least 65 cm width with daily free exercise. Diet is hay-based, supplemented with pellets and fresh vegetables. Common health concerns include malocclusion, GI stasis, and uterine disorders in unspayed females. Lifespan is 5–8 years.
