The Britannia Petite is the British 'Polish' rabbit under the name it received when imported to the United States. The British Polish is thought to have been developed in England in the early 1800s and, despite the name, is not of Polish origin. Because ARBA already recognized a different breed called Polish, the British type was registered as the Britannia Petite, with ruby-eyed white accepted as the first variety in 1977; black, chestnut agouti, black otter, sable marten, blue-eyed white and broken followed. At 0.7-1.1 kg it is among the smallest ARBA breeds, with a full-arch body whose topline forms a quarter circle from the base of the neck to the tail, fine bone and an upright stance. The coat is short and soft. The breed is curious and highly energetic, and is often described as less fond of being held than other small breeds. Its activity level calls for a cage larger than its size suggests and daily exercise time. Grooming is light, about one to two brushings a week during moults. In Japan it appears only occasionally at rabbit specialist shops.
